Complaints Commission of Montserrat Reconvenes with New Members
The Complaints Commission of Montserrat has reconvened, marking a renewed commitment to accountability, transparency, and good governance on the island.
Established under Section 105 of the Montserrat Constitution Order (2010), the Complaints Commission is an independent constitutional body mandated to provide citizens with a fair, accessible, and impartial process for resolving complaints. Its jurisdiction includes human rights complaints, maladministration complaints in the government of Montserrat, and other matters prescribed by law.
By providing an avenue for redress outside traditional government channels, the Commission plays a vital role in ensuring justice and strengthening democratic values. The newly convened Commission comprises:
- Chairperson: Miss Chivone Gerald
- Member: Mr. Roy Greaves
- Member: Mr. Glenn Francis
Both the Department of Legislature and Constitution and Commissions Secretariat has welcomed the reconvening of the Commission, recognizing its importance as a trusted mechanism for addressing grievances. The Commission’s main goal is to ensure that government actions remain accountable and transparent, while providing citizens with timely and impartial resolution of disputes.
The reconvening of the Complaints Commission is expected to bolster public confidence in Montserrat’s institutions and reaffirm the island’s commitment to constitutional compliance, justice, and good governance. Citizens can now look forward to having their concerns—whether related to human rights, maladministration, or other constitutional matters—addressed fairly and logically.
